This painting tells me a lot…

The painting above is from the collection of Osman Hamdi Bey and dates back to 1906-07. There are several suggestions for Osman Hamdi’s inspiration to draw the painting. I rather care about what I see when I glance at the painting. This painting strikes me because of what it says to me: “Everyone CAN be educated”. Osman Hamdi’s (a prominent archeologist of his time)  Kaplumbaga Terbiyecisi (Turtle-tamer) remains to be my favorite among Turkish paintings.
